Never in a million years would I have pictured myself as an axe-wielding, dragon lady, chopping up multi-colored flannel shirts into my very own plaid mulch. But here I am, chopping away my frustrations.
It all started when my brother, Paul, convinced me to go on one last family road trip across the Mother Road with him and my dad.. Just like old times, right? Wrong. What Paul fails to mention is his best man, Porter, will be joining us, who just so happens to be my childhood crush and the man who broke my heart four years ago.
What is supposed to be a fun, family bonding experience across Route 66 turns into a war of pranks, awkward moments and bathrooms full of dirty flannel shirts and day old beard clippings. Paul’s know-it-all attitude and Porter’s devilish charm brings me to the brink of my sanity on my seven day trek across the United States with three bearded men in a small 1980’s RV
This is the funniest book I’ve ever read! I absolutely LOVED this book by Meghan Quinn. It will have you laughing so hard you’ll cry and your stomach muscles will be sore the next day. I’ll also advise you not to read it at work. While I’d rather be caught laughing instead of crying by my co-workers, it still looked like I was crying from laughing.
Marley moved away from the farm life to California to go away to college and became a beauty blogger four years ago. A week before her brother’s wedding both her brother and father show up for one final RV trip across the country. It’s been a long time since they’ve all been in their 1980’s RV and what once seemed big was now small. Add an unexpected passenger who Marley’s had a crush on since they met and he ripped her heart out four years ago turned the trip to nightmare proportions.
I adored all the characters in this book. Marley and her freak outs and willing to do anything for her family. Porter is simply swoon worthy. Just the mention that he looks like Henry Cavill got my heart beating faster. Add his vulnerability and the fact that he thinks he’s not good enough for Marley and doesn’t want to hold her back makes him perfect. Pual and Bernie the supporting characters are awesome! I loved their quirky personalities and humor.
Along with all the humor in this book is a sweet love story as Marley and Porter reconnect after four long years of being apart. With their worlds being completely different how will they make it work or is it just a road trip fling for one or both of them? Porter’s always been a part of the family from the day he moved into town. How will the best friend/brother and Marley’s father feel if they find out about them?
This was such a fun book to read. If you need a pick-me-up book or are in the mood for comedy, I highly recommend this book. It will have you laughing swooning, maybe shedding a few tears (happy and sad, although mostly happy) and cringing at their antics. I’d love to see this as a movie some day this book is that good and funny.
Meghan Quinn knows how to write humor. She is one of my go-to authors when I want a laugh. It’s quirky, hilarious, and on the edge of wrong (in a good laugh out loud way). She can turn any normal situation into a bust out loud, wiping tears from your eyes act. She is a Rom-Com Queen!
